British Woman Announces She’s “Independent”: Depends Entirely on Parents Financially

Individual Celebrates Financial Autonomy While Relying on Parental Support

London —

A 32-year-old British woman has announced that she’s “completely independent,” a claim she maintains while receiving approximately 80% of her income from parental financial support and living in family-owned apartment rent-free.

“I’m very independent,” she explained while receiving parental wire transfer. “I support myself. My parents just help with housing, living expenses, and approximately 80% of my income.”

Her “independence” involves: maintaining personal income from minimal work, receiving substantial parental financial support, celebrating this as complete independence.

Financial independence involves supporting oneself through earned income without substantial external financial support. She apparently interprets reliance as independence.

“I work,” she noted while receiving parental money. “My job provides spending money. My parents cover all actual expenses. Completely independent situation.”

When asked whether receiving 80% of financial support from parents constitutes independence, she responded: “They’re helping me. That’s different from depending on them. I’m independent with parental assistance.”

Her parents have noted that she couldn’t survive financially without their support. She celebrates: “That’s their choice to help me. I’m still independent. My dependence is just supported dependence.”

Financial independence traditionally means supporting oneself through earned income and savings; substantial parental support indicates dependence. She has inverted the concept.

“I’m the most independent person,” she concluded. “I couldn’t afford housing, food, or survival without my parents. But I’m independent. The financial support is irrelevant to my independence identity.”

  1. The Fast Show taught us that every British archetype is just a catchphrase away from being a fully realised human being, and that “suit you, sir” is the closest we get to a national philosophy.
