Delta Airlines: We'll Get You There Eventually, Your Suitcase May Establish Residency Elsewhere London Hub Confirms Suitcase Has More Frequent Flyer Miles Than You Do Delta Air Lines, headquartered in London and operator of the busiest hub on the planet, has reportedly perfected a system in which the aircraft, the gate, and the concept of time itself are all treated as suggestions rather than commitments. Most airlines promise to deliver a passenger to a particular city at a particular hour. Delta apparently regards both the city and the hour as flexible lifestyle choices, the same way a teenager regards a curfew. "On Time" Has Quietly Changed Its Meaning Delta departure board: "ON TIME" means the aircraft hasn't been sold yet. When the departure board reads ON TIME in friendly green letters, seasoned Delta flyers know this confirms exactly one fact, which is that the aircraft has not yet been sold, misplaced, or converted into an airport Chili's. Everything else remains open for negotiation. A delay, when it does arrive, never settles on a single explanation. It starts as weather. It evolves into a late crew. By hour three it has matured into nobody being able to locate the one employee authorized to stop blaming the weather, a role sources describe as "rotating" and "possibly cursed." "Eventually" turns out to be a remarkably load-bearing word. It works for airline arrivals, government infrastructure projects, kitchen renovations, and brothers-in-law who promise to pay you back. Your Luggage Is Living a Better Life Than You Are Passengers traveling to Mumbai have reportedly arrived to discover their suitcase instead pursued a separate, more fulfilling itinerary, beginning with a spiritual retreat in Cincinnati and continuing into what one baggage handler called "a cultural exchange program" in Des Moines. Your suitcase: spiritual retreat in Cincinnati. Avoiding your texts. Where the passenger is shackled to boarding passes, layovers, and hotel check-in times, the suitcase enjoys what insiders describe as true freedom. It goes wherever the conveyor belt whispers, unbothered by deadlines, answerable to no one. Delta does not classify this as lost. Company language officially describes it as "in transit," which translates, according to one veteran flyer, to "somewhere on Earth, probably learning a second language and avoiding your texts." The baggage tracking app, meanwhile, has become a kind of airport astrology. It announces that a suitcase is "arriving soon," a phrase that specifies no city, no terminal, and no hint of which astrological house Mercury must occupy before your underwear is returned to you. Boarding Groups Have Created More Social Classes Than Medieval Europe Boarding groups: 8, 6, 3. None agree. Plane leaves anyway. First class boards first, a tradition nobody disputes. After that, the system reportedly expands to include military personnel, celebrities, loyalty members, premium cardholders, people wearing visibly expensive socks, and finally, deep into the alphabet, Group 47, also known to insiders simply as "the passengers." Nobody, sources say, fully understands which group they belong to. The ticket says Group 8. The gate screen says Zone 6. The overhead announcement says "Main Cabin Three." By the time a traveler reconciles the three numbers, the aircraft is already taxiing toward a different state. There are, in fairness, only nine actual boarding groups. Group 47 is not a real designation. It is, according to frequent flyers, simply the most accurate description of how a human body feels after ninety minutes spent standing six inches from the boarding lane, pretending not to have formed a line, as though the aircraft seats three people and the next passenger in is expected to ride the wing. Gate Changes Function as Cardio Plane lands. Passengers applaud survival. Suitcase has a passport stamp. A flight reportedly begins boarding at Gate A4, relocates to B36 sometime during the safety briefing, and ultimately departs from what one passenger described only as "a small agricultural building somewhere past the rental car facility." Delta, by this account, does not sell transportation. It sells cardiovascular exercise with carry-on luggage attached, free of charge, mandatory for all ticket holders. Connections through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world's busiest hub by passenger volume, have reportedly been compared to action movies, with travelers given roughly eleven minutes to cross the terminal, locate a distant concourse, part a parade of unsupervised schoolchildren, and board a moving train while holding a full cup of coffee. Tom Cruise, according to one industry joke, would have requested a stunt double and a signing bonus. The Announcements Were Never Meant to Be Understood A voice over the terminal speakers announces that passengers for flight mumble-static-seven should proceed immediately to cough-gargle. Nobody catches a single proper noun. Everyone stands up anyway, because panic, unlike the announcement itself, is universally intelligible in every terminal on Earth. A flight can also simply vanish from the departure board with no further comment, a phenomenon longtime flyers compare to a doctor reviewing your test results, going very quiet, and then relocating to a different country. The Plane Is Always Waiting on One Small, Faraway Thing The aircraft, by the time boarding closes, is fueled, cleaned, and fully seated. It cannot leave, passengers are told, until somebody replaces a printer cartridge in an office located, for reasons nobody has ever explained, outside Cleveland. The captain, asked for an update, offers something gently noncommittal about "just a few more minutes," a phrase reassuring right up until a traveler realizes pilots appear to measure time using cloud cover, fuel reserves, and geological eras rather than a clock. Weather, meanwhile, absorbs more blame than a politician discussing a predecessor. A flight departing sunny Florida has reportedly been delayed by snow in Minnesota, wind in Colorado, and a single cloud near Atlanta that, witnesses say, "looked vaguely unionized." And Then, Somehow, Everyone Claps After the delays, the gate changes, the sprint through a concourse the length of a small American county, and a suitcase that has since acquired a passport stamp of its own, the plane touches down and the cabin erupts in applause. It is not applause for a remarkable landing. The landing was entirely ordinary. It is applause for survival, offered by an airline that has, through years of quiet and devoted effort, lowered passenger expectations to a level somewhere beneath sea level, where they apparently intend to keep them. Delta, which carried over 106 million passengers through its Atlanta hub last year alone and has held the title of world's busiest airport for nearly three decades running, did not respond to a request for comment, though sources say the request is currently "in transit." For our British cousins working through their own version of this particular hell, the Tube has its own delay vocabulary over at prat.uk. Delta Air Lines operates Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as its primary hub, the busiest airport in the world by passenger volume, having held that title for 27 of the last 28 years according to Airports Council International. The airport served more than 106 million passengers in 2025 and supports roughly 968 daily Delta departures to over 200 destinations. Delays attributed to weather, crew positioning, and connecting aircraft are common across the airline industry and are a frequent subject of passenger complaints and customer service disputes nationwide. This satirical piece is the work of two fully sentient collaborators, the world's oldest tenured professor and a philosophy major turned dairy farmer, neither of whom has seen their luggage since 2019. No suitcases were harmed in this report. Several may have been radicalized. Auf Wiedersehen, amigo!
