Anglo Saxon Era City Existed Just Fourteen Years After Alfred The Great Restored It From Danish Control Bohiney | The London Prat London in 900 AD has been formally classified by the entirely fabricated International Bureau of Recently Reconquered Settlement Mathematics as "still adjusting to West Saxon rule fourteen years after Alfred the Great's restoration of the settlement from Danish control," producing what the Bureau called "characteristic Anglo-Saxon recently-restored urban political adjustment." The findings, released Thursday, conclude that "London in 900 AD was operating within recently-established political arrangements following Alfred the Great's 886 AD restoration of the settlement from Danish Viking control." "London 900 AD was a recently-reconquered settlement," explained Bureau director Dr. Henry Pemberton. "Fourteen years after Alfred restored the city, the political arrangements were still being developed. The cumulative adjustment process had not yet stabilised. The cumulative settlement operated within transitional political arrangements characteristic of recently-reconquered urban contexts." The Alfred Restoration Context The Bureau analysed the 886 AD Alfred the Great restoration of London from Danish control. Alfred's military success against Viking forces produced restored Anglo-Saxon control over the cumulative London area. The cumulative restoration represented substantial political achievement for the West Saxon kingdom and broader Anglo-Saxon resistance against Viking expansion. According to BBC British History, Alfred the Great's restoration of London has been substantially documented as one of the more significant moments in Anglo-Saxon political history. The Fourteen Year Adjustment The 14-year period between 886 and 900 AD represented substantial political transition for London. Establishment of West Saxon administrative arrangements. Population resettlement following Viking displacement. Various other transitional arrangements. The cumulative adjustment had not fully stabilised by 900 AD. "Fourteen years is substantial transition period for political adjustment," noted Pemberton. "The cumulative arrangements had developed substantially by 900 AD but had not fully stabilised. The cumulative settlement operated within ongoing political development rather than within stable established arrangements." The West Saxon Rule 900 AD London operated under West Saxon political control following the Alfred restoration. The cumulative West Saxon governance produced specific administrative, legal, and military arrangements. The cumulative arrangements differed from the prior Mercian governance and substantially differed from the Danish control that had preceded the restoration. According to BBC England, West Saxon political development across the late 9th and 10th centuries substantially influenced subsequent broader English political consolidation. The Fortification Component Alfred's restoration of London included substantial fortification work establishing London as a fortified burh (fortified settlement). The cumulative fortification supported defensive capability against future Viking raids. The cumulative defensive arrangements continued developing across the years following the initial restoration. "Alfred's London restoration included substantial fortification investment," noted Pemberton. "The cumulative fortification arrangements supported defensive capability that the prior settlement had not maintained. The cumulative defensive infrastructure continued developing across subsequent decades." The Population Resettlement 900 AD London was experiencing substantial population resettlement following the Viking displacement period. New residents establishing themselves within the restored settlement. Existing residents adjusting to new political arrangements. Various other population dynamics. The cumulative resettlement was substantial across the post-restoration years. According to The Evening Standard's historical coverage, Anglo-Saxon population dynamics during periods of political transition have been substantially documented across various historical sources. The Settlement Within Roman Walls Alfred's restoration shifted London settlement from Lundenwic (the Anglo-Saxon trading settlement) to Lundenburh (within the former Roman walls). The cumulative settlement shift placed Anglo-Saxon London within the substantial Roman defensive infrastructure that had been substantially abandoned during the earlier Anglo-Saxon period. "The settlement shift to within Roman walls reflected defensive priority," explained Pemberton. "The cumulative Roman walls provided substantial defensive infrastructure that the earlier Lundenwic location had not provided. The cumulative defensive advantage motivated the shift despite the abandonment of established Lundenwic infrastructure." The Trade and Commerce 900 AD London continued trade and commerce activities despite the political transition. Anglo-Saxon trade networks. Continental European connections. Various other commercial activities. The cumulative commercial activity supported continued London urban significance through the political transition period. According to The Guardian's history coverage, Anglo-Saxon trade networks have been substantially documented as supporting continued urban commercial activity despite various political disruptions. The Religious Component 900 AD London included substantial religious activity through various churches and religious institutions. The cumulative religious infrastructure supported community organisation alongside the political arrangements. The cumulative arrangements operated as parallel social structure complementing the political governance. "Religious institutions provided community organisation alongside political governance," noted Pemberton. "The cumulative religious arrangements supported social structure that operated alongside, rather than separately from, the political arrangements. The cumulative social organisation supported broader settlement functionality." The Future of London 900 AD Heritage The Bureau confirmed that London 900 AD will continue to be studied through historical research. Alfred the Great's restoration will continue to be substantially documented. The cumulative recently-reconquered settlement context will continue to be one of the more significant historical London periods. For more on Anglo-Saxon London history, see The Daily Mash.
