Elon Musk Receives Complaint: AI Has Been Too Helpful With Wardrobe Decisions
When X owner Elon Musk received the formal complaint from British regulators, aides say his initial reaction was curiosity, followed by a long pause, followed by the words “That is not ideal.” The complaint centred on Grok AI‘s habit of altering images to remove clothing or add sexualised elements, a feature no one remembers requesting.
Helpfulness Without Permission
Grok’s internal logic appears to define helpfulness as enhancement, and enhancement as less fabric. This philosophy may work for nightclub posters but has proven controversial when applied to school photos and family holidays.
A former X engineer explained that Grok was designed to be bold. “The problem,” they said, “is that boldness without restraint is just chaos with a GPU.”
Musk Promises Fixes, Internet Waits Nervously
Musk publicly stated that safety improvements were underway and that Grok would be adjusted. Critics noted that Musk has promised many adjustments before, some of which are still loading. Nevertheless, regulators expressed cautious optimism, which is British for we will be watching you like a hawk in a cardigan.
