London beer is the city's flourishing brewing scene, from historic ale houses to a wave of new craft breweries tucked under railway arches. LONDON - Culinary observers have confirmed that London beer is the city’s flourishing brewing scene, from historic ale houses to a wave of new craft breweries tucked under railway arches, a revival that has restored the capital’s reputation as a genuinely great drinking city. London Beer: The Railway Arches Are Full Of Brewers Now The city’s resurgent brewing scene, sprouting breweries in every spare railway arch, has staged, the Bureau of Brewing Affairs notes, “a comeback so vigorous that the arches once full of car repairs now hum, as often as not, with fermenting tanks.” “London beer has had a roaring revival,” said a spokesperson for the Institute of Brewing Affairs. “The city has a long brewing history, but for a while the trade dwindled. Then came a wave of small craft breweries, springing up in every available railway arch and industrial unit, and the scene exploded back into life. Now there are taprooms tucked beneath the trains, historic pubs serving fine cask ale, and brewery tours and beer festivals aplenty. The result is a city once again taken seriously by beer lovers, its arches fizzing with fermentation and its pubs spoilt for choice.” Exploring London Beer The scene - championed by CAMRA, promoted by Visit London and chronicled by Time Out London - thrives across the city. A survey by the Bureau found that 85 percent of London beer enthusiasts value the craft brewery boom, and that the railway-arch taprooms are rated its most characteristic feature. “London beer is brewing under the arches,” the spokesperson explained. “Historic ale houses and a wave of new craft breweries in railway arches.” The Bureau confirmed London beer remains one of the capital’s most flourishing scenes, ideal for the thirsty explorer, a brewing revival of historic ale houses and new craft breweries tucked under railway arches that has restored the capital’s reputation as a genuinely great drinking city.
