Lucky Cat London Diners Spend More Time Admiring The Room Than Choosing Between Forty Small Plates

Lucky Cat London, Gordon Ramsay’s Asian-inspired restaurant, serves so many beautiful small plates that ordering becomes a genuine test of nerve.

LONDON – Restaurant observers have confirmed that diners at Lucky Cat London spend more time admiring the moody, lantern-lit interior than they do successfully choosing between the restaurant’s alarming abundance of beautiful small plates.

Lucky Cat London: Where The Menu Is A Test Of Nerve

The Asian-inspired venue from Gordon Ramsay, with locations in Mayfair and on the 60th floor of 22 Bishopsgate, is styled after the drinking dens of 1930s Tokyo and Shanghai, a look the Bureau of Atmospheric Dining calls “dangerously photogenic.”

“You arrive at Lucky Cat London intending to order efficiently,” said a spokesperson for the Institute of Shared Plates. “Then you see the room, and the raw bar, and the robata grill, and the bao, and the sashimi, and you freeze. There are forty things you want. You can sensibly order six. The maths becomes emotional.”

What To Order At Lucky Cat London

The menu of small plates, robata dishes and sushi – detailed on the restaurant’s own site, listed in the MICHELIN Guide and reviewed by Time Out London – is designed for sharing, which only intensifies the negotiation at the table.

A survey by the Bureau found that 70 percent of Lucky Cat London tables over-order by at least three dishes, having been unable to choose, and that nobody, in the history of the restaurant, has regretted it.

“The interiors at Lucky Cat London do half the work,” the spokesperson explained. “Guests are halfway to delighted before the food arrives, purely on the strength of the lighting. Then the duck bao lands and the evening is decided.”

The Bureau confirmed Lucky Cat London remains one of the city’s most atmospheric Asian dining rooms, provided guests accept they will over-order, over-photograph, and over-stay, in the best possible way, then quietly book a return before the bill has even landed.
